Good quality food and three staple meals a day are the cornerstones of daily life in an Orchard Care home. We have a kitchen team in each home, led by a qualified cook or chef, who focuses on nutritious and balanced meals, freshly made and drawing on seasonal ingredients where possible. Whether it's a home-made pie or a fresh fruit sponge, we aim to provide a quality menu with a range of choices for all our residents, and we dress the dining areas each meal for this important part of the day.
Our Food and Beverage Manager is a trained chef and brings a renewed focus on food, driving standards up and launching a company-wide recognition scheme. Our Centres of Culinary Excellence are being awarded across the country where homes have met key criteria to make them leaders in their field and in their region.
We also work closely with Unilever Food Solutions, part of the Unilever food group, who make such well-known products as Bovril and Colmans. With their support we are able to bring innovative food projects into our homes, such as A Virtual Cruise, which will take place again in 2016. The projects are open to any home and are essentially toolkits, with posters, postcards, recipe ideas and more, used by the homes to create virtual journeys around the world - sparking creativity, bonding, reminiscence and an interest in new foods and tastes.
We work hard to ensure that our residents’ dietary needs are catered for, working together with various organisations including the Vegetarian for Life society, and if you do have any specific dietary requirements we would should be able to cater to your needs, but please do speak to the home or one of our advisors.
We want our residents to be as active and engaged as they can be and so we place a focus on the activities we offer within each home. We have appointed dedicated Activity Coordinators in each home, who are tasked with creating a daily changing programme of events and activities that respond to the interests and hobbies of our residents. Orchard also supports this as a company, providing training, toolkits and funding for our homes to get more involved in many projects.
We launched our Centres of Activity Excellence during the summer of 2016, and have already seen a number of homes in each region accredited with an award. The focus is to continually drive the standards of activity provision up, whilst enabling our homes to feel reward and recognition for the work they do.
