Short Term Respite Care
We offer a range of short term respite care for people that do not require long stay or permanent admission to a nursing home. Our respite care service provides temporary relief to caregivers.
Respite services are available to support an individual’s ability to live longer in the community by ensuring family/other caregivers are supported.
All Mowlam Healthcare homes maintain respite care facilities. These services are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Access to respite care services is based on the need for temporary relief and the availability of facility resources.
A multidisciplinary team, consisting of the Mowlam Healthcare Professionals, the individual and their caregiver, the attending physician and facility staff, provide:
- assessment and referral services
- nursing care
- resident and caregiver support
- self-care, health promotion, and prevention of illness or injury
- recreation and socialisation opportunities
- nutrition, laundry and housekeeping services
- as well as medical services in collaboration with a family physician.
Post Operative Care
A special way of caring for people with illness.
The Mowlam Healthcare Convalescent/Post Operative Care Programme assists individuals with recuperation and recovery after surgery, or serious illness.
All of the Mowlam Healthcare homes have designated beds for this purpose. The average length of stay is between two to six weeks. Discharge from care may occur sooner depending on an individual’s health status.
The multidisciplinary team consists of Mowlam Healthcare Professionals, the individual and their caregiver, the family physician, physiotherapist, nurses, and other facility staff.
Mowlam Healthcare have dedicated Dementia units in some of it’s nursing homes.
38,000 people in Ireland are affected by Dementia. Ageing is one of the single strongest risk factors for Alzheimer’s Disease, (the most common form of dementia).
Dementia is a general term used to describe a group of symptoms. These include impairment in memory, intellect, judgement, language, insight and a deterioration in social skills. The individual diagnosed with dementia may also demonstrate an acute sensitivity to his or her built and social environment and a high level of stress. While over 100 different diseases will produce the symptoms of dementia, it is known that Alzheimer’s Disease is by far the most common cause of dementia and accounts for more than 50% of all cases.
