Iveagh House Banbridge

Ápolási otthon (Egyesült Királyság)Hozzáadás a kedvencekhez

Leírás

Iveagh House is situated on an elevated site at 62 Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, BT32 4JD, just on the outskirts of the town.
It was originally built in 1902 to the design of Henry Hobart and it became the home of Thomas and Evelyn Ferguson whose family owned Thomas Ferguson & Co. Ltd, the well-known linen damask weavers. Originally it was an extensive property covering several acres comprising lawns, gardens, stables, greenhouses, vegetable garden, orchard and tennis court. Iveagh House is described in Kathleen Rankin’s book The Linen Houses of the Bann Valley as being “a two storey, three bay Victorian house built in red brick and having an imposing doorcase, set within an arch with keystone supported on two Tuscan pilasters and having an entablature designed to give the effect of a balustrade. There are bay windows extending to the first floor on either side of the front entrance with the windows recessed, sashed and silled and topped with a flat arch in brick”.
After his death in 1952 Thomas Ferguson’s two daughters, Miss Geraldine and Miss Janie Ferguson continued to live in Iveagh House until the death of Miss Janie in 1990. The house was then purchased by a property developer (William Kelly) who used the extensive site to build a number of fine dwellings at Oakridge. A new front driveway was constructed for Iveagh House and Harold Mitchell (Belfast) Limited then purchased the house and the remainder of the site. This company extended the property in a sympathetic style, and re-opened Iveagh House as a nursing home in February 1993.
The home is only about 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of town. There is a bus stop just outside, and Tesco’s is a few minutes down the road. It takes just a couple of minutes by car to get onto the main A1 road between Belfast and Newry.
A typical day
iveagh-066At Iveagh House you will benefit from a tailored care plan and we are keen that you carry on with daily habits, such as lie-ins, watching TV in the evenings, and enjoying quiet time reading. It is up to you when you get up or go to bed, but our general routine is:

  • 8.00–11.30am get up, wash & dress
  • 12.30–1.15pm lunch
  • 2pm afternoon tea/selection of meals for next day
  • 2.00–4.00pm afternoon activities/rest
  • 4.30–5.15pm dinner
  • 5.30–7.00pm rest/movie evening
  • 8.00-9.00pm supper
  • 6.00–11.00pm retire to bed
  • 11pm–8am night care
Visits
Although we would prefer that visitors come between 9.00am and 9.00pm they can visit at any time by letting the Nurse-in-Charge know. Our only limit to visiting times is mealtimes when we aim to have a quiet, calm environment in the dining room to help residents eat well. Having said that, if a resident chooses to dine in their room, visitors are more than welcome to join them.
Food glorious food
food-glorious-foodWhen you come to live at Iveagh House we will talk to you to find out about your dietary requirements and your specific likes and dislikes. We have a fully equipped kitchen operated by our own catering staff and we provide our residents with nutritious and varied menus. Special menus are provided for festive occasions and we pride ourselves on our home baking. At each mealtime you will be offered a choice. Menus are rotated every three weeks and are revised every few months with input from residents.
Our mealtimes are as follows:
  • Breakfast 8.30–10.30am
  • Lunch 12.30–1.15pm
  • Dinner 4.30–5.15pm
  • Supper 8.00–9.00pm
Hot and cold snacks are also available at all times of the day or night. Meals are served in the dining room but if you prefer to eat in your room we can arrange that.
Your visitors can bring you snacks like fresh fruit, unopened mineral waters, ice cream, yoghurt, and bars of chocolate, but not cooked or raw food.
There is a fridge in the dining room where you can store items. You can also get take-away meals from time to time by arrangement with the Nurse-in-Charge. A resident may consume alcohol in moderation if this is under the supervision of our care staff.
We provide all personal and medical care, all meals, heating, lighting, bed linen, towels, basic toiletries, medical consumables, a laundry service and all basic requirements. A varied programme of activities is run throughout the year by the home’s own dedicated Activities Co-ordinator. Morning newspapers (News Letter and Irish News) and weekly papers (the Leader and the Chronicle) are provided. We have installed Wi-Fi throughout the home and this service will be available free of charge to resident and visitors. Hairdressers visit the home weekly, although this service is a chargeable.
Medical care
Each resident is assigned a Named Nurse. Our Nurses deliver round the clock care supported by our Care Assistants. We have a GP who routinely visits twice weekly, and who will be happy to take on new residents as patients. When required we can access specialist N.H.S. medical professionals to treat our residents, such as an optician, physiotherapist, podiatrist, dietician, speech therapist, dentist or tissue viability nurse. We can also help to arrange transport to hospital appointments.
Spiritual care
We welcome local visiting clergy from all denominations and we ensure that residents, who wish to, can take part in Sunday worship. Religious festivals throughout the year are celebrated by ecumenical services of worship.
